I’m a little embarrassed to say that I only celebrate Thanksgiving when I’m in the US. I love everything about the holiday: stuffing, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and a big fat turkey. But for some reason the feast just doesn’t translate over when we’re in another country. I guess it’s a combination of hard to find ingredients (turkey!) and lack of atmosphere. It just doesn’t feel the same if nobody around you is feeling festive, not to mention Thursday is a regular workday everywhere else in the world! However, when we are Stateside and do celebrate, we have some Thanksgiving traditions we uphold. We have two Thanksgivings…in a row! On Thursday we head to the clubhouse for a special Thanksgiving buffet, then on Friday we do the whole shebang all over again but this time homemade. Truly. The. Best. Nothing beats that. Since I’m in Korea this year, I’ll be missing out on all the festivities tomorrow. Hopeful that maybe next year I’ll be back to celebrate!
In the meantime, here are some Thanksgiving and un-Thanksgiving related finds I found roaming around the internet.

Remembering that Thanksgiving is not just about the food but also about the people.
For those of you flying during the weekend, going gourmet at airports (food truck at LAX?!).
What your favorite pie says about you.
Anyone baking a pie from this cookbook (just got it myself!), or even better, getting a pie from the shop?
I love mini food, but it can get a little crazy. Guide to not letting that happen.
New pastry shop opened in Paris! Dying to go.
Also dying to go…holiday market in Union Square.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the States! And to the rest of us, just two more days til the weekend!

I went to the Union Square Holiday Market. Always fun to browse through, but I never buy anything. Thinking about starting an ornament collection, so maybe I will buy something there this year…
🙁 I miss RSF Thanksgivings with halmoni’s turkey and stuffing recipe and halabujee’s request for sushi. Only our family would do turkey and sashimi together….

Michelle- Yea! You should totally start an ornament collection. That would be so much fun.
It’s always a duo! Turkey+Ham, or Turkey+Roast Beef, or Turkey+Sashimi!

Hi Jessica~
This is my second time leaving a comment. I constantly look at your page for ideas. I have tried out two of your recipes and they both came out perfect. Sometimes it is hard for me to buy ingredients in small amounts or even find the ingredients. I live in Korea at the moment. Is there a place that you go to buy your ingredients? Also, the cake on the top of the page is there a recipe? It looks like some type of cheesecake. But I wasn’t sure.

Joyce- Thanks so much, for visiting my blog and using it for inspiration!!! The biggest compliment! Totally made my day, week, maybe even month! The cake above is actually a panna cotta mousse cake with a passion fruit gelee in the middle. I’ve been meaning to get the recipe organized, but haven’t gotten around to it…yet!
For places to buy ingredients:
방산시장- For basic baking ingredients, molds, packaging etc. They usually sell small amounts of ingredients too (like 250 grams of chocolate instead of 3 kilos).
Department store markets- For specialty ingredients like coconut oil and herbs.
SSG Food Market- Also good for specialty ingredients and high quality products.
Foreign Food Mart in Itaewon- they have a good variety of foreign ingredients for a pretty good price. They also have good butter there!
Those are just a few spots, but I hope it helps!! Let me know!!

Jessica-
Thank you for your reply.
Do you currently work in Korea? The picture of the store is so cute.
I would like to visit sometime. My boyfriend and I are on a hunt these days
looking for cute spots to eat. I have been to both the 방산시장 and SSG Food market. I haven’t been to the foreign food mart in Itaewon though. It is so close to me I never thought of going there. I will keep checking the blog for the panna cotta mousse cake. I just love panna cotta. My sister is getting married in the summer time I am getting so many good ideas from your blog. It is totally awesome. Thank you. Keep blogging. Forever~

Joyce- Thank you for being so encouraging!! I blog because I really enjoy it, but it’s always so nice to hear feedback from people! Are you planning on making something for your sister’s wedding?! So exciting!
Joyce says
Since I work in Korea, its a bit hard for me to prepare something for her wedding. I will be going a couple of days before the ceremony. But I saw some cute ideas for other special events. Everything is so creative. Did you learn how to take pictures too? I don’t really enjoy taking pictures so I never had a talent of taking pictures of things either. But your photos are awesome. Seems like a professional took them.
Jessica says
Joyce- I’ve been trying to “stylize” my photos a bit more lately, but maybe because I’m critical of my own stuff, but I feel like I still need lots of work! I took a photography class from a friend of a friend a couple year ago, but my boyfriend got me a 50mm lens for my birthday which works wonders! Aw, that’s too bad you can’t make anything for your sister’s wedding, but that may be better. You can enjoy the whole celebration without worrying about cooking/baking.
